John Corson's Blog

for February 17, 2021

I woke up this morning and it was SUNNY! Yeah! This marks the first time in one full week that the sun was out from behind the clouds and beaming into my back windows. Yesterday, it was still very overcast in the morning and the temperature when I awoke was around 42 degrees and climbing. By the time I got to work it was 53 degrees. About thirty minutes later, the sun came out. Within 3 hours all the clouds were gone!

So yesterday's high temperature was 69 degrees. Today, under sunny skies -- It's 36 degrees and the time at this moment is 12:00 Noon! Quite a contrast isn't it. Typical of our weather here in Hampton Roads, Virginia. When the clouds come the temperatures stay above freezing because God forbid that it should snow around here. The temperatures rise and the rains come, then the rain stops and the temperatures fall. Well, at least we have sunshine for today - all day. And then the rain comes overnight tonight and all day tomorrow. We are expecting about two more inches of rain. My back yard is officially a part of the James River!

Well last night I finished reading Rod Dreher's book Live Not By Lies which I talked about in Friday's blog. I was especially impressed at the many figures who were interviewed or whose descendants were interviewed concerning their life under Communist oppression. The answer to the question of how they were able to hold up under it was simply: They trusted God. Even when thrown in dark prisons, beaten, or as was in the case of thousands of other Christians, faced the firing squad. The stories of the legacies each left behind were thrilling and more so, were challenging. The legacy of strength in the times of physical torture is something most people, if not all, in this country would never appreciate.

So, after finishing that book, I started on Andy Ngo's recently published work Unmasked: Inside Antifa's Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy. Ngo is an American journalist whose parents escape Communist oppression in Vietnam an migrated to the US in the mid eighties. He is known for his vast coverage of the protests and riots in Portland, Oregon. He has written columns in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, Newsweek, and others. He drew national attention in June of 2019 when he was beaten and left for dead by Antifa while covering the protests in Portland. The book was released on February and the first copies were back ordered before its release so that they were sold out on the very first day. I just got my copy Saturday through the publisher, but waited until today to start into the read. I only read the Introduction last night and I knew following that brief encounter that if I were to start on the first chapter I would not go to bed at all. It should take about eight hours with a couple of breaks and I plan on tackling at least half of it today. I need to save something for tomorrow's monsoon.

I slept in for a while this morning and upon awakening I laid in the bed with my phone consulting the many news site I normally peruse, just to find out what the Democrats have done to further ruin my country. There was the usual gun control and confiscation stories, the news of Biden and the Dems wanting to take over the schools and tell them when they have to open, Biden telling us the Coronavirus won't be over until the year 2023 or maybe much later, a lot of news about the seriousness of the polar vortex which as crippled more than half the country, stories about Trump still being the odds on favorite to win the GOP nomination in 2024, and then there were at least four more news reports about the effects of Don Corleone Cuomo's orders to force nursing homes to take in Covid-19 patients and how the numbers were skewed. While reading one of those stories, it dawned on me that Oxford's Dictionary should redefine the word "ASS". It real definition should be simply Andrew Cuomo, Governor of the dying state of New York.

New York population is shrinking courtesy of the Democrat-imposed high taxes, unpleasant mandates, stringent regulations on businesses and more taxes, bad roads, piss poor fiscal management, more taxes, shut downs on just about everything enjoyable to citizens, forced quarantines for those visiting the state. Yes, it is still in effect. If you plan a two weeks vacation to the Empire state you have to spend two weeks in quarantine - then go back home. Oh, and then there are more taxes,......

This morning, on the Glenn Beck Show, Glenn was talking to several people living in New York state, and several who have had to move due to high taxes and forced regulations. The first hour was on Cuomo's draconian measures he has taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. One couple on the show were both healthcare workers and the husband spoke about how due to the shortage of non-sick nurses and doctors, he had to work 57 straight days, for times without so much as an hour of rest, while his wife worked in one of the nursing homes which was ordered to take in Covid patients resulting in over 36 deaths at that home in less than a month. They both quit their jobs in New York, moved to Florida, obtained jobs there and since November they have been inundated with phone calls from the state of New York asking questions about why they left their jobs there, why they moved out of the state, if they plan on returning. And on and on. The state is threatening them with heavy taxes their income for this year for moving out of the state. I didn't know they had expatriation taxes, but I guess they think they do. This is the tax imposed on those who renounce their citizenship but I thought only the IRS does this. I guess, since the Democrats are in control in New York they can use this as another imposition in the tool belts against its people.

I did a cursory search of the tax laws enacted in New York state since 1975 (46 years) since Hugh Carey became Governor, and I found this interesting:

Hugh Carey, Mario Cuomo, Eliot Spitzer, David Paterson and Andrew Cuomo were Democrat governors and only one, George Pataki, was a Republican. Pataki served two terms from 1995 to 2006. With the exception of the Pataki years there have been over 873 tax laws enacted on the citizens and businesses of New York for various and sundry purposes. During the eight Pataki years, there were only six! Also there were twenty-three tax laws rescinded under Pataki and a total of zero tax laws rescinded under the Democrats. People and businesses are leaving New York because they are being taxed to death and the common denominator behind the high taxation is the Democrat Party. I just hope and pray that the fleeing citizen don't take New York's voting patterns with them to Florida, Texas and other states that don't even have state income taxes.

Why is it that the very people who complain about their politicians and their crony ways continue to vote Democrat? Can anybody answer that? Can you say: "Moron?" If you want to vote for Democrats stay in their states. Don't elect them in your new place of residence. What the hell is wrong with you? I guess it would take a ten-ton nuclear warhead dropped on the heads of these people to awaken them to the simple truth that Democrats don't just want your money, they want ALL your money, and your livelihoods, and your properties and your possession and your guns and your freedom and your children, and everything they can get their hands on. There are five groups of people that I can't stand to be around and all five cannot be reasoned with. These five are Communists, Socialists, Progressives, Fascists and Democrats. Wait a minute ... Democrats make up the first four! These groups, in reality, make up THE LEFT! Remember my rants about THE LEFT? I would simply remind you know that THE LEFT is incapable of thinking about anyone other than themselves. They don't put a value on the truth and they certainly hold Freedom in contempt. The only thing that holds them back is the Constitution. But when the Democrats finish the next four years, there won't be a Constitution. At least there won't be the current Constitution over which a lot of blood was shed. There may be a Soviet-style constitution. I wouldn't put it past those Marxist in Congress who continue to call themselves Democrats.

OK, I'm done. Time for me to start reading Andy Ngo's book. I am sure I will have a lot to say about it in the days ahead.

Blogs are about the blogger. It's as if he or she merely toots their own horns about the things they do, say and love.

My life is boring. I read, I watch Glenn Beck and Mark Levin. I listen to Andrew Wilkow. I engage in some conversation with those who are willing to listen (they being masochistic and enjoy killing themselves with my banter).

I plan on just laying out the things that bother me and the things I love. Nothing in-between. I hope you find whatever I put here amusing.
